Eclipse - Interior Finishes

Back to blog

There has been some confusion regarding finished ends and interiors when upgrading to plywood construction vs standard construction in the Eclipse line.

Our best advice is to follow and use the standard interior guide on page D1 in the Eclipse spec book. If you do that, you will not have any issues with multicolored interiors or bottoms. If you try to mix interiors other than what the chart on D1 shows you can run into some variables that you will need to work through with your customers.

In this article, we are going to break down some of the different combinations of finish options and how they affect the interior finish of that particular cabinet.

Standard (Non Plywood) Construction

Standard Interiors

When using the standard construction, finished ends do not change the interior color. Bottoms will match the exterior of the cabinet. This chart shows what interior you will get standard with the finish you use.

Linen Interior

On all ll finished ends, the interior of the finished end will match the exterior of that finished end. Thus causing a multi colored interior.

Recessed Bottoms

When using this option with standard construction, the end that is finished will have an interior (white or maple) based on the cart above. However, the bottom (underneath) of the cabinet will be multicolored due to the end panel on the finished end side will be 1 ½ in lower than the cabinet bottom and will be the same as the interior (white or maple). In standard construction the bottoms of the cabinets are finished the same as the exterior. So, the end panel on the finished end(s) side will be the same as the interior (white or maple) and the flat bottom of the cabinet will be same as exterior. You will have a multi colored bottom.

Plywood / Partial Plywood Construction

Everything below this point only applies to the Plywood Construction Upgrade

Construction Summary

Plywood Upgrade consists of the sides, top, bottom panels, & adjustable shelves are 3/4” plywood. Material is plywood corewith two MDF cross bands. Maple & White cabinet interiors only. Not available with plywood finished ends. When Plywood is ordered with finished ends, case construction will be Partial Plywood with Particle board or MDF finished ends. Top & bottom panels will remain plywood and will have the same finish on the exterior as the interior.

When Plywood is ordered as finished interior, all finished parts will be particleboard.

If you choose the plywood upgrade you will not get exterior matched finished tops or bottoms of the cabinet. They will be the color of the interior (White or Maple).

Mixed Interior - Wood Finish / White Interior

If you choose plywood construction in a wood finish with white interior. Finished ends will have the same color on the interior of the cabinet as the exterior of that finished end. In other words, you will have a multicolored interior.

To avoid this, order plywood construction - wood finishes with maple interior.

If you choose the white interior option, you will not get finished matching bottoms. The bottom of cabinets will be white. The interior of finished ends will be the same finish as the exterior.

White Interior - (HPL, Acrylic, Paint)

If you choose the white interior option, you will not get finished matching bottoms. The bottom of cabinets will be white. The interior of finished ends will be white.

Maple Interior (Wood, TFL, Recon, Paint)

If you choose the maple interior option, you will not get finished matching bottoms. The bottom of the cabinets will be maple. The interior of finished ends will be maple.

Recessed Bottoms

When using this option with Plywood construction, the end that is finished will have an interior (white, maple, or same finish as exterior) based on the options above. The end panel on the finished end side will be 1 ½ in lower than the cabinet bottom and will be the same as the interior (white, maple, or same finish as exterior).

In plywood construction the bottoms are not finished and match the chosen interior finish (white or maple).

So the only way you would get a multicolored bottom is if you again order the Plywood Construction - Wood Finish / White Interior
